This is a portrait of a Nguni cow. This is a pure bred African bovine. Chaka Zulu was breeding them. The skins were used for the shields of his army. The less spots a warrior shield had, the higher in standing the warrior was. Chaka Zulu’s elite troops had shields without a spot.
